Improve your body image

Self-esteem is of great importance to how we behave in the bedroom. If we are unhappy with our bodies then this can prevent us from being open with our partners, and this can result in sex being uncomfortable. It is not only shy people who suffer from low self-esteem, as there are many people who use loudness to hide their inner anxieties. If you are willing to put the effort in, then low self-esteem can be prevented from affecting your sex life:

  • Admit the truth - The first step to overcoming your low self-esteem is to admit the problem. This can help you to realise what causes these feelings, and then to make any changes that can prevent them from affecting you. Whether it is negative comments from your friends, or self-doubt about your body you need to work hard to make a change.
  • Nobody is perfect - We all see the perfect looking guys and girls in the media, but this is a fake beauty that can not be achieved. The sooner you realise that you are a unique individual, the sooner you can relinquish any unrealistic goals you may have. There is no one kind of beauty, and we all have our different tastes when it comes to who we find attractive. Rather than thinking about what is negative about your body consider what you like. You are bound to build up a good list of attributes if you really put your mind to it.
  • Hard work - There is no quick fix to improving your self-esteem. It will take effort, and the support of others around you. If someone is putting you down constantly, then they are not worth your time, and are probably only doing this because of their own problems with low self-esteem. Set yourself goals, such as going to the gym, but do not set your expectations too high.
  • The anchor exercise - This is a self-help technique, which involves the person thinking back to a moment when they felt great confidence. You need to allow this confidence to flow through your body. When the feeling of confidence is at a great level you pinch yourself, which acts as an anchor. Then, next time you feel you need a boost of confidence, pinch yourself. This will act as an on switch to these feelings of confidence.
